The Center for Islamic Sciences (CIS) was established in 2000 (then called Center for Islam and Science) as a non-profit organization dedicated to the following aims and objectives.

Aims and Objectives
- To establish a renewed and vigorous relationship with Islamic spiritual and intellectual traditions in order to draw on them for understanding the contemporary world.
- To publish scholarly works on various aspects of Islamic spritual and intellectual traditions.
- To promote research on and about the enterprise of science in Islamic civilization.
- To promote scholarly research for a better understanding of contemporary science from an Islamic perspective.

The idea of a three-volume Encyclopedia of the Qur’an is shared with Muslim scholars around the world. It is entitled Concise Encyclopedia of the Qurʾān (CEQ)

CEQ becomes seven volume Integrated Encyclopedia of the Qurʾān (IEQ)

Work begins on IEQ

Volume 1 of IEQ is published. It contains 47 entries (A—Bea)
