Yamine B. Mermer was born in Algeria where she graduated with a BSc in Physics. She completed her MSc and PhD in theoretical physics at Durham University in England. Fluent in Arabic, French, English and Turkish, she has translated and published in several languages.

She is involved with the history and philosophy of science with reference to Islam. She has published numerous papers and books in this field. Publications of note, in Turkish, include Beyond Science (Istanbul: Iz, 1991) and Transcendental Dimension of Science (Istanbul: Karakalem, 1998).

She has concentrated her research especially on the Risale-i Nur by Bediuzzaman Said Nursi. “The Hermeneutical Dimension of Science: a Critical Analysis Based on Said Nursi’s Risali-i Nur” was published in The Muslim World, July-Oct. 1999.
